Lantek in China
Lantek is a global company with a local approach. We aim to stay close to our customers and partners, to understand their requirements and specific characteristics first-hand, and to build strong relationships that allow us to work together in finding the best solutions to improve productivity and efficiency.
Lantek established its presence in China in 2006 with the opening of its first office in Shanghai, which serves as the head office. Since then, the company has expanded its footprint with additional offices in Tianjin and Wuhan, ensuring coverage across key industrial regions of the country.
From these locations, Lantek supports a wide range of customers, from machine manufacturers to subcontractors, helping them optimize sheet metal processing through CAD/CAM, MES, and integrated management solutions. The local team, composed of experienced engineers and consultants, provides implementation, support, and continuous improvement services adapted to the specific needs of the Chinese market.
History
The development of the sheet metal and metal processing industry in China has been closely linked to the country’s rapid industrialization over the past four decades. Since the economic reforms of the late 20th century, China has evolved from a manufacturing base focused on volume production to a global leader in industrial capacity.
Metalworking has been a key pillar in sectors such as construction, automotive, electronics, and heavy industry. The strong growth of domestic manufacturing, combined with large-scale exports, drove widespread adoption of cutting, punching, and forming technologies. Over time, the sector has moved from labor-intensive processes toward more automated and precision-driven production, supported by increasing investment in advanced machinery and industrial infrastructure.
The sector, today
Today, China represents the largest manufacturing ecosystem in the world, with a highly diverse and competitive sheet metal sector. While cost efficiency remains important, there is a clear shift toward higher quality standards, automation, and digitalization.
Companies are increasingly focused on improving productivity, reducing waste, and integrating processes across the production chain. The adoption of CAD/CAM, MES, and ERP solutions is growing, particularly among manufacturers aiming to compete in higher-value segments and international markets. In this context, China is transitioning from a volume-driven model to a more advanced and technology-oriented manufacturing environment, where software and data play an increasingly critical role.
