Lantek in United Kingdom

Lantek is a global company with a local approach. We want to be near our customers and partners, know their requirements and singularity first hand, and have a close relationship to go hand in hand finding the best solutions to improve their productivity and efficiency.

Lantek opened its UK office in March 2000 to support a growing number of Machine Tool manufacturers distributing our CAD/CAM Nesting software, Lantek Expert, with their machines in the UK and Ireland.

In 2009 we expanded our UK business focus to include the full suite of Lantek Sheet Metal Solutions, including  Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) in addition to our CAD/CAM Nesting software.

History

The development of the sheet metal and metal processing industry in the United Kingdom is deeply connected to the country’s industrial history. During the 19th and 20th centuries, regions such as the Midlands, Sheffield, and the north of England became major centers for metal manufacturing, driven by industries including shipbuilding, railways, automotive, and heavy engineering.

The British industry was one of the first to industrialize metal transformation processes at scale, building a strong tradition in machining, cutting, and metal forming. Over time, the sector evolved from large industrial complexes into a more flexible network of specialized manufacturers and subcontractors. Companies linked to automotive, aerospace, and advanced engineering accelerated the adoption of CNC technologies, laser cutting, and automation.

The sector, today

Today, the UK sheet metal sector combines a long industrial tradition with a strong focus on advanced manufacturing. Companies operate in a highly competitive environment where automation, system integration, and operational efficiency are critical priorities. The digitalization of production processes and the integration of CAD/CAM, manufacturing, and management systems have become essential to maintaining competitiveness in industries with demanding technical and production standards.

Driving the industry foward with the best

Lantek is part of the leading industrial and technology associations in UK:

AILU

Association of Industrial Laser Users, commonly known as AILU is one of the main organizations supporting the industrial laser manufacturing community in the UK. Founded in 1995 as an independent non-profit association, it brings together manufacturers, laser users, researchers, integrators, and technology suppliers across the full industrial laser ecosystem. Its objective is to promote the adoption and development of laser technologies in manufacturing by connecting industry and academia, encouraging collaboration, and sharing technical knowledge and best practices.

AILU plays an active role in advancing laser-based manufacturing through technical workshops, networking events, publications, and industry initiatives. The association organizes the ILAS Symposium, one of the best-known laser application events in the sector, and publishes The Laser User magazine, focused on practical industrial applications and innovation. It also supports workforce development through initiatives such as its Early Careers Group and promotes research and industrial cooperation around areas including laser cutting, welding, marking, and advanced manufacturing processes.

MTA

The Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) is one of the main organizations representing the manufacturing technology sector in the United Kingdom. Established in 1919, the association brings together companies involved in the design, supply, and development of advanced manufacturing technologies, including machine tools, automation, software, metrology, and metal fabrication systems. Its role is to promote the interests of the sector, support innovation, and strengthen the competitiveness of UK manufacturing through industry representation, networking, and technical collaboration.

Beyond its advocacy role, the MTA is widely recognized for organizing MACH, the UK’s largest exhibition dedicated to manufacturing technologies. The association also supports workforce development, industry research, and the adoption of advanced production methods across sectors such as aerospace, automotive, energy, and precision engineering. Through these initiatives, the MTA acts as a key connector between manufacturers, technology providers, educational institutions, and government bodies, helping drive the modernization of British industry
